OZ3X12V (VME formfactor)
The OZ3X12V is a 3 channel, 12-bit position interpolator designed to accept conventional analog sine and cosine encoder inputs and interpolate a single encoder cycle into 4096 discrete steps, i.e. 12 bits. Thirty-six bits of integer position, or line count, is also provided. The third channel also provides position compare. This feature provides a hardware trigger pulse when the actual position matches a preset compare register. This register can be auto incremented, thus providing autonomous triggering of system components at a fixed positional interval.
The OZ3X12V interfaces directly to encoders with differential outputs. The encoder interface employs automatic gain correction and ratiometric signal conversion, and can therefore tolerate input signal amplitude variation with minimal reduction in performance. This is intended to compensate for normal signal amplitude variation over an encoder’s measurement range. A signal conditioning board (P.N. EA100) is available to adapt encoders with different signal formats to the OZ3X12V. The EA100 also provides external encoder power supply connections for special applications.
Mechanically, the OZ3X12V conforms to standard VME card dimensions. The board may be mounted in a standard VME bus slot or as a standalone card in the user’s chassis. The VME bus itself is not used for interface purposes, rather, a separate parallel bus is provided to interface directly with a Delta Tau, PMAC motion control card as a memory mapped peripheral.
