Field Oriented Control
Field Oriented Control (FOC) use is very common in Induction Motor Control because it has the ability to control the motor speed more efficiently than other control systems. It is also less expensive to build a FOC system than other control systems.

The concept behind a field oriented control system is to manage the interrelationship of the fluxes (field) and to obtain the most performance from the motor. A three-phase motor incorporates windings that are displaced by 120 degrees (or a fraction of that amount) along the stator. Three voltages separated in phase by one-third of a cycle are feed into the windings. This produces a rotating magnetic field.

The rotor in the machine consists of a closed circuit. When the stator magnetic field sweeps the rotor, an EMF is induced in the rotor circuit, and produces a current. The current produces its own magnetic field, and this induced magnetic field interacts with the stator magnetic field producing mechanical force upon the rotor.
